About

Modern care needs modern tools.

ContactFollowUp was started because the tools the healthcare front office uses were either built for a sales floor that never sees a patient, or built for an EHR vendor that never thought about a marketing funnel. We thought a small team could build the better thing — and we did.

The company

Northern Software Consulting.

ContactFollowUp is a product of Northern Software Consulting, LLC — a small, intentionally-not-VC-funded software company based in the United States. We've been building healthcare and operations software for clinics, agencies, and small teams since 2019.

Our prior work informs every design decision in ContactFollowUp: a charting app that taught us how clinicians actually navigate a patient record; an operations dashboard that taught us how front-desk staff actually triage a morning; an audit-log tool that taught us what HIPAA auditors actually look for.

We are deliberately small. We pair every engineer with a working clinician or administrator before any feature ships. We don't take VC money so we don't have to ship features for board meetings. We charge a fair, transparent price, and we plan to be around for decades.

Funding

Customer-funded

No VC. No board pressure. No exit timeline.

Mission

The simplest version of why we exist.

“Make the front office software that small healthcare practices wish they had — honestly priced, honestly secured, and honestly designed.”

Values

What we hold ourselves to.

Three values, in order of priority. They show up in the product, in the contract, and in the way we answer support email.

1

Privacy-first

Every PHI field is encrypted at rest. Every write is audit-logged. We don't use customer data to train AI we sell, ever. If we ever do, this paragraph changes before we ship it.

2

Clinician-first

No screen ships without a working clinician or administrator reviewing it. We design around the actual workflow — the messy, interrupted, ten-things-at-once workflow — not the sales demo.

3

Transparency

Public pricing. Public security posture. Public roadmap. When something goes wrong we tell affected customers within 24 hours, and we publish a post-mortem within 72.

How we work

A few principles, written down.

Hexagonal architecture, on purpose

Core / Services / Infra is rigid. The storage and transport layers can be swapped without touching the domain. Tests run without a database; PHI encryption is testable in isolation.

Tokens, not hex codes

The design system is enforced. Every color, spacing, and radius value comes from a token — no hard-coded literals in components. The whole product re-tints correctly between light and dark on the first paint.

Plain-language errors

No 'Oops!', no 'Looks like…'. When something fails we tell you what happened, what we'll do about it, and what you can do. We don't write marketing copy in error messages.

Documented runbooks

Every cron, every cloud-side operation, every deploy step is a script in this repo. Ad-hoc CLI state drifts. If we did it once, we documented it before we called it done.
